In the majority of the decorating magazines this past month they have been discussing what trend is coming in and what trend is going out.

What is coming in? Would you believe that draperies are coming back and going to be trendy for a while. I think that is a bit absurd. People with good taste have been using draperies ever since our ancestors discovered that animal skin over the mouth of the cave provided privacy and insulation from the elements.

Personally I'm glad since I have liked draperies ever since I started in this business. To me draperies are what start and finish every decorated window and door. Draperies can be used in conjunction with every other window treatment that I know about.

Draw drapes are great insulators. They keep the heat out in the summer and the cold out in the winter. They also provide you with just the amount of privacy that you may want.

With all the great fabric styles to choose from the selection is endless. There is a color and style for everyone.

The selection of decorative hardware to compliment that great looking pair of draperies is at an all time high. You can buy just about every shape and size of hardware. What you can't buy you can have made for you or you can make it yourself.  

As you have heard me say many times when it comes to decorative hardware learn to think out side the box. Old small cast iron skillet's make terrific tie back holders.Golf clubs make drapery rods that scream class!

Wow! I think I got to preaching there- I do like draperies-anyway they say draperies are coming back in and wood and fauxwood blinds are diminishing. I think they are wrong. As much as I like draperies I think one of the greatest looks a is a nice 2" wood or fauxwood blind framed by a great looking pair of draperies with a swag treatment above.

The only item that would make the above scenario better would be the addition of a awesome pair of soft sheer's between the blinds and the drapes.

That is what I would like, my wife would like something else, the trendy crowd whatever is in today, and you -what would you like? Maybe because of regional or cultural differences you would like something altogether different.

That's what makes decorating so special. There is a floor plan and color combination for everybody. What you and your family like and put together is that perfect decorating project that is just right for your family.

When you decorate, decorate for the family not the trend. The trend will only be in style for maybe a year or so because some other great look will replace it and then you will be out of style.

Decorate for your family and you have your own trend that you can keep adding to through the years and you will always be in style.
